Thursday practice after Week 5 setback The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with plenty of injury issues heading into Week 6 Y.A. Tittle Jersey White , but the Green Bay Packers have a big concern of their own. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been dealing with a knee injury since Week 1, and he said on Thursday that he had a setback last week against the Detroit Lions (via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky).Rodgers sat out Thursday’s practice, but sitting out the first practice of the week has been a regular feature of the past month. Last week, he sat out Wednesday and then was a full participant on Thursday and Friday. The week before he was a Wednesday DNP and then limited on Thursday and Friday. However, with this “setback” he might be back to a limited status. It seems all but certain he will play on Monday, but the big question for now is if he will have to change braces. He wore a smaller brace last week than he had the previous three weeks, but he might need to move back to the bigger knee brace for Monday.Rodgers has been able to put up some quality numbers in spite of the injuries, but if the 49ers want a chance in this one, a slowed down Rodgers would be a big help. The Packers run game has been shaky primarily due to Jamaal Willliams’ struggles and the decision to not use Aaron Jones nearly enough. If Rodgers is slowed down this week, maybe the Packers go to the ground game a bit more. That’s been an area where the 49ers defense has found some success, so maybe this sets the 49ers up in a position to keep this thing close. Here’s the Packers full injury report for Thursday.DNP: TE Jimmy Graham (knee), QB Aaron Rodgers (knee)Limited: CB Jaire Alexander (groin), WR Geronimo Allison (hamstring), CB Bashaud Breeland (hamstring) http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-george-kittle-jersey , S Kentrell Brice (ankle), WR Randall Cobb (hamstring), G Justin McCray (shoulder), LB Nick Perry (ankle), S Jermaine Whitehead (back)Full: CB Kevin King (chin) I’ve been making a few radio appearances in anticipation of the San Francisco 49ers Thursday Night Football matchup against the Oakland Raiders and the big question, well the one besides why this game is happening, is who will start C.J. Beathard or Nick Mullens? Well, wonder no more! ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Nick Mullens will get the nod and start tonight. The 49ers followed it up a few minutes later to make it official. The 49ers waived Tom Savage (yet again) and it indicated that Beathard would be active tonight, but as Fooch noted, it didn’t indicate if Beathard would start. Beathard injured his hand in the 49ers’ Week 8 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and was regarded as a game-time decision. The 49ers want to get out of this game as well as 2018 without reaggravating anything else and will need Bethard for the long-term. A three day rest period just wasn’t going to work. I imagine if this was a Sunday game, Beathard would no doubt be under center. So now Nick Mullens will be starting. Mullens came to the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and spent that year’s season on the practice squad. He has not started a regular season NFL game in his career. He helped the 49ers win a preseason game to start 2018, but spent his time on the practice squad until Jimmy Garoppolo’s unfortunate knee injury put him in the starting lineup. Things already got interesting for Thursday night as we will get a chance to watch Nick Mullens in NFL action. It will be interesting to see what happens with this game and what the 49ers decide going forward for the rest of the season, especially if Mullens plays lights out. And here we go!
